Elizabeth Catlett

Elizabeth Catlett

Elizabeth was married to Charles White.
Some of her best-known prints are Sharecropper (1968 or 1970) and Malcolm X Speaks for Us (1969). Well-known sculptured pieces include Dancing Figure (1961), The Black Woman Speaks and Target (1970), and The Singing Head. The National Council of Negro Women in New York City commissioned her to create a bronze sculpture, and her bronze relief adorns the Chemical Engineering Building at Howard University. In 2003 Catlett designed a memorial to author Ralph Ellison, which stands in West Harlem, NY.

Charles White

Kerry James Marshall, Mentioned Charles White When he talked about his Art and how he was inspired by Mr. Whites work. I agree It has Detail and emotion.
From a broken home in Chicago, Ill., White found that he could draw at the age of seven. He studied violin for many years acquiring a permanent love for music. An avid reader, he once said "A book that fascinated me and opened up new vistas, was Dr. Alain Locke's The New Negro.

The 10th Cavalry

The 10th Cavalry was formed at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in 1866Very high standards of recruitment were set by the regimental commander and Civil War hero Benjamin GriersonLife at Leavenworth was not pleasant for the 10th. The Fort's commander, who was admittedly opposed to African- Americans serving in the regular army, made life as difficult as he could on the new troopers

English painter and sculptor, 1817-1904

Medusa, originally a beautiful young woman whose crowning glory was her magnificent long hair, was desired and courted by many suitors.

Poseidon (Neptune) found her worshipping in the temple of Athena (Minerva) and raped her. Athena was outraged at her sacred temple being violated, and punished Medusa by turning her beautiful tresses into snakes and giving her the destructive power to turn anyone who looked directly at her into stone.
I throught that was wrong for Athena to be mad at Medusa and not the MAN who did the CRIME.

Michael Ray Charles is a young American painter, born in Lafayette, Louisiana. He received an MFA at the University of Houston and teaches at the University of Texas in Austin.

One Of Many negative stereotypes that African-Americans still buy into. through his painting I believe he is telling a story. Like The painting of Elvis with him having a black face.
My grandmother would see Elvis down at the corner store hanging with the black folks singing.

The day after

The Day After

The day after

I can't seem to get you out my mind

When you came into the world

For only a short period of time

The day after

I can't seem to get you out my mind

There was so much joy you gave me that moment in time

The day after

I can't seem to get you out my mind

How I held baby Pittman close to my heart

The day after

I can't seem to get you out my mind

Wishing that I could turn back the hour glass just to have you full of life

The day after

I can't seem to get you out my mind

I will always have the memories of

Your 1st photo to your 1st movement

The day after

I can't seem to get you out of my mind

Cherishing the moment you came into the world

The day after

I can't seem to get you out of my mind

No You & Me

No You & Me

There is no you & me

There is no more late nights

It feels like a heavy rock off my heart

I won't lie I feel pain knowing that this is the last time

No more love making

No more wondering and sitting by the phone

Hoping that you'll call

The joy of being with you meant so much to me

There is no more you & me

There is no more late nights

Looking into the sky

Looking at my future

Looking at where my life has taken me

Looking at the many stones that stood in my way

Not for very long did I let them stand in my way

There is no more you & me

There is no more late nights

Looking for the hammer in my right hand

I start to fight back for my self RESPECT

There is no more you & me

There is no more late nights

I Deserve better than that

Saying goodbye

Saying goodbye

March 10th We said our goodbyes on wednesday

We will close the chapters to our lives

We had some ups and downs through out the years

I want to call you so bad and make up

But your right your not my husband nor

My man

In everyones eyes they've seen to see something 3 years

I've been holding on to

All that you've done said and did

I wanted to leave you so many times

I thought that I might be the one to change your playin' ways

As long as you had a freak in your

Life

I was wrong

The pain remains in my stomach running

through out my body slowly

We've been friends and Lovers for years now

Today is the I

Say Goodbye

The feeling that I had can't compare to my 1st

Love

The hurt is real

Fair well to all the nights we used to sneak around

The Feeling

The Feeling

Do you get that feeling

Something or someone is missing
in your life or around you in

Some part
Do you get that feeling you have
everything you want and need

Do you get that feeling you could
get more out of what you put in

Do you get that feeling
Your all alone and you can't
count on the ones that love you

Do you get that feeling
If you don't tell
that special person how you feel
it might be to late

What I Want

What I want

With you I want to open up

Tell you how I feel

With you I want to whispers my deepest thought

I want to hold you in my arms

Your hot sexy pack lying next to me

I want to have your child

With you I want to open up

Tell you how I feel

Right now with all the wants

The whispers of my deepest feelings

Won't come out

Having your Sexy hot pack lying next to me

I can't have your child

With you I want to open up

Tell you how I feel

It just won't come out
